Nintendo has announced they will drop the price of the Wil U by $50 to $299, no doubt in an attempt to somehow compete with Sony and Microsoft as they get set to launch their next-generation PlayStation 3 and Xbox One consoles. The Wii U has been slow selling anyway, having shipped only 160,000 units in the most recent quarter. For those on a budget, the Wii U could be a good alternative to the $500 Xbox One. But for a hundred bucks more, who wouldn’t be more inclined to pick up a PlayStation 4 unit for $399?
It’s no secret Wii U doesn’t stack up to the high quality offered by Playstation and Xbox consoles, but for gamers who play titles like Rayman, Pokemon and Zelda, the higher end graphics and processing really isn’t necessary. Does anyone need to play Super Mario in high-def?
The Nintendo Will U will drop to $299 on September 2oth. Upcoming games for console include The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in October and Super Mario 3D World this holiday season.
